Inside Energetiks | Introducing Grace Monaco, Dispatch & Warehouse Supervisor
The Inside Energetiks series introduces you to the people behind your favourite dancewear brand. Grace Monaco is part of our incredible Head Office team in Melbourne, Victoria and works in our warehouse as Dispatch & Warehouse Supervisor. Like most of us here at Energetiks, Grace has a background in dance and a passion for all things dance related. We chatted to Grace about her dance life and her role at Energetiks.
How did dance become a part of your life?
As a little girl I was always dancing around the house. There’s a lot of videos of me dancing to Shania Twain and mum and dad’s old music on the record player. I always had a microphone in one hand and my sister and I would make up dances together. Mum decided to put me in dance because I had shown such an interest in it. So I was probably in grade two or three when I started, and then I danced until I was twenty.
What styles of dance have your trained in?
I started off in jazz and tap, and did that for a few years at a dance school in Colac. I moved to another dance school in year seven and I was there until I decided to stop. I did contemporary and hip hop there and then I did ballet as well so it was a bit of a mixture of everything. I danced at school as well and did a couple of the state school spectaculars, we were ensemble dancers so that was fun. I did one comp in Warnambool with an honourable mention! It was a contemporary hip hop fusion, it was a bit weird and quirky but it was pretty cool.
What was your favourite dance style?
Pointe and hip hop. Weird combination I know! Pointe was my favourite; I loved the pain. I love sport, I’m a very physical person, but I also love music. Dance for me was like the perfect fusion of the two.
Do you still dance now?
I’m not dancing at the moment. I would like to start some casual classes because I do really miss it. Being around it every day is also a constant reminder that I’m not dancing anymore. So hopefully soon!
How did you start working at Energetiks?
As a dancer I followed Energetiks on social media. I saw a post for a Pick-Packing job in the warehouse, and I had just moved to Melbourne and was looking for work. So I applied and came in for my interview and I was lucky to be offered a full time position. I did that for about a year and then I moved into Senior Dispatch, with a few more responsibilities. Then I moved up to Dispatch Administrator, which I did for another year, and then the Dispatch Coordinator position for ten months, before becoming the Dispatch & Warehouse Supervisor, which is what I do now.
What does your job involve?
Basically I manage the day to day work flow of incoming and outgoing stock to ensure a seamless process of fulfilling orders. I co-ordinate the Dispatch and Warehouse teams accordingly ensuring all stock is available for sale in a well organised warehouse and all that orders are picked, packed and shipped promptly and accurately. My role requires a high level of organisational skills and my tasks vary from admin work such as maintaining and monitoring inventory levels and inventory activity, to processing exchanges and allocating backorders.
What is your favourite part of your role?
I like that I am very involved with all departments of the company. The dispatch team have a hand in most departments so it’s nice to interact with different people every day. We help retail, customer service, marketing, quality control, production and accounting in many aspects and tasks daily.
You’ve also done a little bit of modelling for Energetiks. How was that for you?
It’s always fun. It was during one of my first months at Energetiks that the marketing team pulled me from the warehouse and were like ‘put this on!’. I definitely resisted it at first but it was actually really fun. It’s nice to get out of the warehouse for a minute and look pretty.
What are your favourite products?
I love the limited edition collections every time. Some of my favourites have been Momentum, Gemini and the latest ROAR Collection. I also really like the Tessa singlet and the Jordan Pullovers from our core collection. I always get an outfit when a limited edition collection is released, usually a pair of leggings, a crop and maybe a singlet. I love wearing what we produce. When something has just come out it’s exciting to wear to work every day!
Finally, what do you love about working for Energetiks?
When I came to Energetiks I just wanted to be around people who had the same passionate interest in dance. I knew I was never going to be a dancer professionally so I’m happy to help those who are. It’s nice to know that people are following their dreams and we’re able to help them with that.
Stay tuned to meet more awesome team members in future posts from the Inside Energetiks series.
