SCIMM. Dance Company announces 2022 Season 'PARACOSM'

THE PROFESSIONAL DANCERS OF SCIMM. DANCE COMPANY RETURN TO THE STAGE WITH A BRAND NEW SHOW.

After a tumultuous few years suffered by the performing arts industry (and the Victorian performing arts industry in particular), one of Melbourne’s most esteemed dance companies is set to have a triumphant return to the stage. Debuting their first performance season since 2019, SCIMM. Dance Company brings audiences ‘Paracosm’: an exploration into the concepts of escapism and fantasy creation expressed through contemporary dance, sound, lighting and visual art.

Known for their fully immersive and conceptually rich performances, SCIMM will return with characteristic style in this double bill choreographed by Company Directors Scott Pokorny and Tim Barnes alongside new work, Altered Trajectory, by guest choreographer Sarah Boulter.

Paracosm also features lighting design by Nick Glen and visual art by artist Jonty Knight and a brand new soundtrack composed by music artist Tiarn Courtice, ensuring this season is set to be a multi-sensory feast for Australian audiences.

The pandemic has been a timely reminder for all of us to support the art we love, or risk losing it, but in the process we’ve also gained a new appreciation for the enjoyment and thrill of seeing new work up close and in the flesh, and Paracosm is shaping up to be a highlight of 2022 for anyone with a love of dance, or simply the urge to submerge their senses in a new experience.

Company Directors, Scott Pokorny and Tim Barnes say, “remember those detailed imaginary worlds we created as children? They possess their own geography, history and language that we use to escape from reality. Our aim has been to create a show that demonstrates how this phenomenon is created within one’s mind. We want to serve you an artistic feast fit for the senses”.

The Melbourne show season of Paracosm is not to be missed with all four shows starting at 7.30 pm on July 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th at Transit Dance, 64 Dawson Street, Brunswick - followed by two Sydney performances at the NIDA Playhouse Theatre, July 14th & 15th and a Sale performance at The Wedge on July 24th.

Tickets can be purchased from scimmdance.com.au.
